ATLAS is now a sub-committee of the Temple Law Student Public Interest Network, and keeps a database of students who are fluent in a language beside English. When a client cannot communicate with his or her attorney in English, an ATLAS student will work directly with an experienced attorney to advocate for the client in the legal matter or case.

The goal was simple: make sure more students, especially those with family or work obligations, could still access support.

He also created the Barrack Public Interest Fellowship Program in 1991, which has benefited nearly 200 students. The aim of this fellowship was to remove some of the financial obstacles that so often discourage beginning lawyers from entering public interest jobs after graduation.

Patrick Afriyie Patrick Afriyie, LAW ’24, is a 2022 Law and Public Policy Scholar and Conwell Scholar at Temple University Beasley School of Law.
